Internet on Wheels
Computer Bus East Sussex County Council has launched a 'Mobile Office' that will stop at six different rural locations every week. The office vehicle - the first of its kind in the South East - provides residents with free internet access, library information services, a community help point and e-learning opportunities.
The mobile office provides people in rural areas with four main services:
>>> Free access to the internet via the People's Network.
>>> Library and Information services, including searching the library catalogue, reserving books, DVD's, music and other items, collecting and dropping off items and handling enquiries.
>>> A Community Help Point where people can make local council enquiries and fill in on line forms.
>>> Learning opportunities through UKOnline, LearnDirect and the local Adult Community Learning Consortium, who will provide informal tutorials or simply answer questions about computers, such as how to use email, the internet, Microsoft Word and other software.
Every Tuesday afternoon 1-30pm to 3-30pm In the Station Car Park {opposite Topwood}
Add your organisation to these pages. The aim is to gradually add details of the majority of organisations in the village to these pages. If you are the organiser or Committee Member of a village Club, Society or organisation, get the details of your organisation on to these pages, you can use the Add Details form to get the details added. If you want to see what your pages might look like, take a look at what has been created for the Cricket Club and The Etchingham Military and Aviation Preservation Group.
Up until 1939, and the outbreak of the Second World War, Etchingham had a thriving Cricket Club. After the war ended the Cricket Field was not put back into use, and the Club dissappeared. Now a group of cricket enthusiasts in the village have formed a a new Club, to maintain links with past tradition, the new Club bears the original name "The Etchingham & Fontridge Cricket Club". To find out more about the Club, click on a cricket player.
Etchingham Trust for Sport & Recreation (ETSR) has a number of items for sale on eBay to raise funds towards the new village hall.
The Village Diary contains details of forthcoming events in the village. It is in the form of an interactive Calendar that any visitor to the site can add to. It will be useful to you if you want to find out what is planned, or if you are planning an event you can check what is already planned to avoid a cash of dates.
If you or your organisation are planning an event, click on the 'View my Calendar' link above to add the details of your event, then click on to the date for your event. Then, click on 'Add an event' on the left hand side and fill in the details, and click on 'Save'. Note; DO NOT enter details into the 'Appointments' section on the right, this section only gives a limited number of characters.
Add the basic details as soon as you know the date, this will help other organisations that might be planning a similar event, and help to avoid a clash of dates.
In October 2000 a number of homes, the Church and the village shop, then known as The Etchingham Stores, suffered flooding. As a result the then owners of the shop, decided not to re-open the business, over the next two years a group of dedicated village residents worked hard to acquire the premises, carry out building renovation and get the shop trading again. In June 2003, after many months of hard work, the shop opened as a 'Community owned' shop and is still providing a valuable service to the village. For full details click on the link above.
The Community Links page contains links to websites with useful and helpful information, community and safety information, and links to Local Government and Government sites.
If you know of any good sites that can be included, send the details, after they have been checked, they will be added if suitable.
We now have a seperate links section where you can add the address of web sites that users of this site might find interesting. Please add only links to sites that are compatible with this site, ALL unsuitable links will be removed. ALL LINKS TO SITES NOT SUITABLE FOR FAMILY VIEWING ARE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY. {so, do not waste your time adding the links} To view the links or add your link, click on the button below.

There has been a reduced amount of usage on the discussion forum over recent months, this appears to be mainly due to the Forum admin no longer allowing guest posts, with the need to be a registered user to post messages. In the last six months since these changes were made the number of messages posted has been very small, not just on the Etchingham Forum, but all the villages hosted on the UK Villages Forum site. I have decided to try a new forum just for the Etchingham site, initially I will be using the free version on the forum, which has limited storage space, and unfortunately pop-up adverts, I will evaluate the usage over the next few weeks. I will then decide if there is enough usage to keep the forum on the site, and also whether it is worthwhile upgrading to the full version, which would have unlimited storage and no adverts. So it is over to you, the users of this site, to decide if you want to use the new forum facility. The old Forum will stay in use, the link above will take you there, to use the new Forum click on the link below.
